Meldrum bulks team with apprentice intake
In a move that stands out against other companies in its industry who are laying off staff, Meldrum Construction has just taken in its latest raft of apprentices, boosting the 80 plus team by nine, with another intake planned for September this year.
Covering a variety of roles, including ground working, joinery, bricklaying and electrics, the apprentices will receive on the job training with the Birtley based company.
Managed by Ian Howmans, construction manager at Meldrum, the team is already at work on the sites across the region being worked on by Meldrum in a variety of projects from full design and build through to maintenance contracts.
Ian said:
“We are very proud of the quality of our apprentices who are a great asset to Meldrum Construction. We strongly believe in developing our personnel to enable us to have a skilled highly motivated workforce capable of carrying out all trades within the industry. This can only benefit the company in the future with our full package design and build projects.”
The new additions to the ground works team are Carl Rutter (22) from Walker, Shane Barberel (22) from Blaydon and David Wharton (20) from Dunston.
Daniel Rouse (23)from Sunderland has joined as senior apprentice electrician from Sunderland, along with Craig Rook (20) from Winlaton Mill as apprentice electrician.
