Builders Swap Tools for Chopsticks in Opening Celebration
The Meldrum Construction team working in the MetroCentre for the last few months celebrated the opening of the new branch of the well-known Lau’s Buffet King Restaurant this week, called Buffet King @metro.
The 150-seater restaurant, which has created 20 jobs, is based in the Mediterranean Village, and is the latest addition to the Lau family business. The company already owns the Waterside Palace Restaurant on Newcastle Quayside, Lau’s Buffet King in Newcastle’s China Town and the Panda Oriental Buffet Restaurant in Sunderland.
Jon Wall headed up the construction team for Meldrum:
“We are delighted to see the restaurant up and running and have thoroughly enjoyed our venture into what was a fresh challenge. Although we are highly experienced in all building aspects, fitting the inside of restaurants is a new direction for the company and we are proud to expand into this territory with the success of the very attractive interior of Buffet King @metro.”
Meldrum Construction is better known for its maintenance work on the Tyne Tunnel and for both private and public sector complete Design and Build projects. The opportunity to work with such a well known regional restaurant chain was too good to miss out on, and Meldrum has now finely tuned a talent that the business has been expanding into recently.
Jon and his team celebrated completion of the work with the owners Sun Ye Lau and Jeab Wong. Sun Ye Lau said:
“We would like to thank Meldrum Construction and Dunwoodie, the designers, for their work. There have been a couple of teething problems as there always is with this type of project, but they have been dealt with professionally and quickly and we are delighted to open the doors to our latest restaurant. We look forward to welcoming new customers and clients we know from our other outlets too.”
Buffet King @metro caters for all tastes, offering 70 different varieties of fresh, quality dishes from all around the Orient. Ideal for lunch, evening meal or even a party booking, the new restaurant involved a £1/2 million investment by the owners.
