This project was a Design & Build contract for a joint venture between the Port of Blyth and Newcastle University. The Project was a Light Gauge Steel frame structure with a combination of cedar boarding and facing brickwork to the outer skin finish.
- LGS frame structure
- Powder coated aluminium windows and a saran finished flat roof
- The internal design covered a workshop area, an aquaria, a meeting room, teaching area facilities and a drying roof
- Total floor area of 335m²
- The station provides Newcastle University with a new Marine Sciences facility, and their research vessel Princess Royal is berthed in the Port
All works were completed in a live environment, with no disruption to port activity. Furthermore, following a value engineering exercise we were able to significantly reduce the project from its official tender of £490,000 to £440,000.
The Port of Blyth station was officially opened in November 2014 by her Grace the Duchess of Northumberland.
