Meldrum were successfully awarded the electrical installation at Intu Eldon Square.
This system consisted of numerous addressable fire alarms systems and Vesda systems that were interlinked along with a sound and public address system.
As this was a live environment it was made a priority that Meldrum maintained the fire alarm system whilst work was carried out to enable the facility to open for business and ensure the public were protected. This included the interface of all existing shop fire alarms with the new systems.
Work was completed out of hours in all public and staff areas. Meldrum ensured deadlines were met when carrying out change overs of previous systems to ensure business resumed as normal. Meldrum ensured this by allocating a Project Engineer was on site twice a week to audit procedures and monitor the programmes.
Meldrum worked closely with Trinity (Fire Alarm Specialist) and the Main Contractor (Sir Robert McAlpine).
The potential of asbestos in the building was high due to the age of the buildings. Meldrum were to investigate and highlight any areas of concern to the main contractor to ensure its removal before starting work.
Due to the height of the malls all Meldrum operatives held IPAF Certificates to carry out the works. Meldrum were contracted to source these lifting systems to work. Due to the floor levels the machines had to be able to work on all terrain. Once a shift was completed all areas were cleared ready for the public entering the facility that morning.
The project was delivered on time and to a high standard and within budget. This was recognised by the award of next phase of works.
