Meldrum were successful in winning the award for this YHN development of 3 no 2 bedroom units. The project took place on a brownfield site, our in-house Design Department fully designed this project providing several iterations of the design and estimate in which the size, orientation and layout of the properties were revised to give the client the most valuable end product and the most economical cost.
The project utilised the use of a Light Gauge Steel frame solution speeding up the rate of construction and allowing following trades to commence earlier.
Due to the proximity of shallow mine workings the full site required grouting, the process of drilling a series of holes in which a concrete mix (containing recycled pulverised fuel ash) is pumped. When cured this stabilises the surrounding strata and prevents the buildings being erected from sinking.
The three bungalows were designed to meet Lifetime Homes, Secured by Design and Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 criteria and accredited where appropriate. The bungalows were designed for wheelchair access including a structural design which allows the future installation of accessibility equipment.
