The Empire Palace, as it was originally named, first opened its doors in 1907 and has remained a hugely popular and iconic venue in the northeast ever since. This project for Meldrum was several stages of refurbishment of the Grade II listed and intricately decorated building. The different phases included works on the theatre entrance & doors, a full toilet refurbishment, upgrading the foyer and modernising the bar area as well as some general internal restoration and decoration.
In-house we manufactured bespoke joinery for the interior decoration. This was to ensure replication and protection of the existing features in the beautiful auditorium.
During the works we were very careful to ensure the theatre company was able to maintain full use of the building and all facilities. An important aspect of this project was the timings as we needed to be mindful of the theatre’s scheduling – due to our precision timing and expertise all activities and works were completed by ‘curtain up’.
