Meldrum Succeeds on the Wings of Dove
Dove Building Merchants has successfully opened a new flagship, state-of-the-art outlet in Birtley on time, thanks to the dedication and skill of Meldrum Construction.
The finance director of Dove, Richard Painter and Alan Johnston, manager of the outlet, which is on Portobello Industrial Estate, wheeled Meldrum site manager Harry Robinson off the site in celebration of the opening.
Previously home to a wine wholesaler, the 2 acre site has seen a £750,000 investment from Dove, including a trade showroom open to both trade and the public offering the full range of builders merchandise.
Alan Johnston said:
“This outlet is like nothing that Dove has ever done before, and is the flagship for many of our new plans to follow. We have truly made this outlet tradesman friendly with plenty of room for vans to park and with easy access just off the A1.”
The job by Meldrum included gutting the old premises to follow a new, very specific design, including removing an asbestos roof to fit a fully insulated replacement. The renovation also included the creation of the office and retail space, storage, strengthening of the internal structure, specialist floor coating and hard standing external works.
Harry Robinson said:
“It has been satisfying for the team and me to see the new Dove outlet take shape and open on time. We worked hard as a team, and now wish Dove all the luck with their new site.”
The opening of the new outlet has created ten new jobs within the Dove team, and on the back on this success, several other new outlets in the North of England and Southern Scotland are being built into the company’s business plan.
