Meldrum gets in on the Panto Act
The Meldrum team has pulled out all the stops for the Sunderland Empire, finishing essential works to the building just in time for panto season….
….and site manager Laurie Hutchinson got a great big thank you from Sam and Amanda, the Ugly Sisters in this year’s production of Cinderella, starring Mickey Rooney.
Meldrum Construction Services has just finished the year long programme for Sunderland Empire which has included refurbishment of the gallery, the creation of four special disabled access boxes, the creation of a disabled toilet, roof work, a new ceiling for the gods, refurbishment of the offices and a brand new box office.
Melvyn James, Technical Manager at Sunderland Empire, said:
“Meldrum has been the perfect choice of contractor for us to work with as not only do they understand what our business and building needs in the form of retaining its traditional and ornate features, they also conduct their work in a manner that has not interfered with our shows in any way.
“Our customer's enjoyment of their visit here is paramount for us, and Meldrum has been discreet, courteous and clean whilst doing fairly high level maintenance and construction projects around our building.”
Laurie met with the Ugly Sisters, played by Chris Dennis and Richard Pocock, to celebrate the conclusion of works and the start of the 2007 panto.
Laurie said:
“All the team have enjoyed working at the theatre and it is a real experience to witness the warm up sessions and stars coming and going. It is going to be a great panto this year, and now the work is completed the Sunderland Empire is looking stunning.”
You can catch the Ugly Sisters in Cinderella at the Sunderland Empire until the 6th January. For information call 0844 847 2499 or go to SunderlandEmpire.org.uk
