Meldrum offers a variety of services which can be contracted as: stand alone; a mixture of the different elements; or as a full start to finish service.
We work with our clients in a variety of ways including initial feasibility and concept through to land acquisition and complete design service, permission and approvals. Our construction skills are second to none, whilst we are becoming well known for our maintenance service.
Furthermore every project has a dedicated director as its central point of contact for all activity, to ensure seamless service to the client.

Feasibility
Feasibility n: ability to be done or implemented, possibility of?
An idea or concept is where every building project starts – we work with our clients from the earliest possible stage, looking at whether the initial thoughts are ‘feasible’. A feasibility study is one of the most misunderstood, yet important part of planning a construction project of any size. Mistakes at this early stage can prove fatal to a project, and a good feasibility study encompasses more than just financial projections.
Crucial questions are part of the service provided by Meldrum: Can the project happen? Is there the land? Are the costs possible? Is the council likely to approve?...the list of boxes to be ticked in the feasibility stage are almost endless but without this initial study, the rest of any project is likely to fail.
Main focuses include technical and financial feasibility studies where risks are assessed, and alternatives investigated to ensure that by the time the planning and design stages are reached, the project has been proved as viable.
Carried out professionally by our team, your feasibility study is likely to become the strategic plan that is followed to ensure a smooth building programme.
Design development
Meldrum’s project development service follows the progress of a project from the ground up, reducing construction costs before, during and even after project commencement.
When following on from a feasibility study, design development ensures all elements are in place for a smooth project.
Planning consent, building regulation approval and construction details, integral to the successful completion of a construction project, are all part of the design development service.
Building design
Meldrum Construction take a holistic approach to the building design process, embracing civil, structural and M&E requirements into the building design and detailing to ensure a smooth path through to the construction phase.
This service can be used as stand-alone or in conjunction with our other services, including Feasibility, Design Development and Construction.
Throughout the process, we ensure that the client is involved in the key decisions that then allow us to concentrate on resolving the technical issues.
Design & Build projects offer the optimum in value for money and simple contract management.
Construction
Meldrum’s construction skills are second to none – from our apprentices through to site managers, all our team are versed in the very latest technology, and combined with experience and traditional proven applications our construction projects are quality led, delivered on time and within budget.
We offer construction services to private individual's building residences through to multi million pound corporations extending or building new commercial premises. Combined with our other services, or as a stand alone service working alongside other organisations such as architects and project management companies, Meldrum’s reputation precedes us.
Shopfitting & carpentry
We offer a full design and fit service for both shopfitting on site and the manufacture of bespoke joinery products within our workshops at Birtley.
From a full retail or restaurant fit out to a one off staircase, we specialise in designing, producing and installing only the highest quality products as stand alone contracts or to compliment main construction works. Our on site projects have included both refurbishment and all new fit out of some leading retail outlets across the region and within well established shopping malls such as The Metro Centre, Eldon Square and The Bridges, as well as bar and restaurant design and installation.
As a company we have a high level of experienced, time served joiners and also commit to a regular influx of apprentices who receive the best training, ensuring we never experience a skills shortage.
Our joinery/carpentry team can also take a commission for a one off, bespoke piece of furniture or fitting. Doors, staircases, bars and pews are amongst the many hand finished creations produced, a fine example being the custom built screen fitted within St. Godric’s church in Durham City (featured) complete with hand carvings to match existing furniture.
Both the shopfitting and carpentry services include full feasibility and design services as standard including 3D imaging and ‘walk through’ if required.
Maintenance
Meldrum has become renowned for its maintenance service. Buildings need continual care to remain in optimum condition, and the best way to do this is to have a contracted maintenance team who look after the infrastructure internally and externally.
