Ted’s punching to a new weight with new job - thanks to Chronicle
Recreational boxing coach Ted McKenzie is delighted to have landed a new job with Meldrum Construction Services thanks to the Chronicle.
Ted, from Washington, has joined the full service construction company as team leader, and for his first role will be overseeing works on the second phase of a job secured at Walker Filtration.
Bringing with him 30 years experience in the industry, Ted is not only a trained brick layer, he also has qualifications in driving plant machinery, plastering, tarmac-ing and concreting, so is a valuable addition to the 70 plus strong team.
In his spare time, Ted is well known in the local area as a boxing coach at the Centre of Excellence for the sport, Terry Degan’s Washington Village Boxing Club. There he teaches children from the age of 10 upwards in the sport.
Married to Deanne and father to nine year old son, Declan, Ted is settling into his new job at the Birtley based company quickly. The 46 year old said:
“Having worked in the industry for some 30 years, I have worked for a number of employers, but have been aware of Meldrum’s success over the last few years. The owner David Meldrum has a faultless reputation in the industry, and combined with being a great boss, the company is winning exciting new contracts.
“When the offer came to join the team here, I didn’t hesitate.”
